The Mission and Service Fund
More than half of the income for the work of the church each year comes through the Mission and Service Fund. Joyful giving begins at Sunday worship with gifts offered to the Mission and Service Fund. Some send gifts to the church’s Direct Giving program, or make In Memoriam or In Celebration gifts.
Many remember the church in their wills: In 2007 more than 8% of the Mission and Service Fund was bequeathed through wills. These bequests are put into the Mission and Service operating fund and are transferred to the Mission and Service Fund over a three-year period.
Other Sources of Revenue
Other sources of income for the church in 2007 included about 10.3% in retail sales through United Church Resource Distribution and about 20.6% from the recovery of sales tax and pension administration fees, donations, designated gifts, and grants from organizations such as CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency). Income on church investments amounted to 23% of the Mission and Service Fund in 2007.
Help the Mission & Service Fund – Help the World
If there's any chance that you or anyone around you doesn’t understand the importance of Mission & Service it woudn't hurt to have a reminder each Sunday – or as often as possible! For an idea of the work we do through the M&S Fund click here. M&S has been woven into the fabric of our church in one form or another since church union. M&S gifts allow us to be the church year after year. Without these gifts we cannot fund the work in our hearts or into the world. M&S is connected to all we do. Here are some ways to include Mission & Service in your congregation every week:
| ♦ | Talk about the importance of the Mission & Service Fund. |
| ♦ | Use Mission & Service bulletin covers. |
| ♦ | Use offering envelopes with a space for Mission & Service gifts. |
| ♦ | Read a Minute for Mission – think about it, pray about it. |
| ♦ | Include Minutes for Mission snapshots in bulletins or publications. |
| ♦ | Use M&S for Kids for the children's time or in Sunday school. |
| ♦ | Provide M&S envelopes for everyone. |
| ♦ | Use M&S bookmarks in your copies of Voices United or your Bibles. |
| ♦ | Ask the minister to include M&S in the invitation for the offering or other prayers. |
| ♦ | Ask that a portion of all fundraising go to M&S. |
| ♦ | Put an M&S coin box beside the coffee urn at the social hour or at meetings. |
| ♦ | Offer M&S envelopes for visitors or for special gifts. |
| ♦ | Give every member a copy of M&S at a Glance to learn how M&S money is spent. |
| ♦ | Plan a special Mission and Service Fund Sunday. |
| ♦ |
Make M&S goal setting an important part of your church life. |
