Proposal 1

That London Conference call upon its Presbyteries and Congregations to:

a)   1. Take action to join with other denominations and faith communities to organize gatherings with local MPs to address the issues of poverty, climate change and peace, using resource materials provided by the Canadian Council of Churches, and
      2. Report back through Presbyteries to the London Conference Church In Society committee (Social Justice Network) so that we may provide information to the Canadian Council of Churches about our participation in this initiative, and
      3. Identify what further actions local Congregations can take, or are already taking, to address these faith concerns.
b)   Join with the national United Church of Canada and the Canadian Council of Churches in calling on the federal government to restore KAIROS funding.

Proposal 2

That London Conference of The United Church of Canada:

1.   Support the 'Put Food' in the Budget campaign.
2.   Call on the Government of Ontario for a $100 monthly supplement to the basic needs allowance for all adults receiving social assistance.
3.   Encourage every Delegate to London Conference and every Congregation in London Conference to 'Do the Math' survey.
4.   Encourage every Delegate to London Conference and every Congregation in London Conference to 'Live the Math' of trying to manage on a food budget of equal to that given out by a local Food Bank for 1 week and afterwards share your experience in your newspapers, newsletters.

Proposal 3

That London Conference of The United Church of Canada make Alleviation of Homelessness a priority for London Conference in the coming year through the ministry of the Church In Society Committee by

1.   Raising the awareness of homelessness through workshops, dialogue, partnerships and special projects such as low income housing, and
2.   Encouraging Pastoral Charges to:
      a. Become increasingly aware of homelessness in their communities,
      b. Support and/or partner with other Congregations and/or organizations in their efforts to alleviate homelessness, and
      c. Raise funds for anti-homelessness efforts such as Limberlost, Southdale Chaplaincy, East London United Church Outreach, the Windsor Downtown Mission, the Inn of the Good Shepherd and Operation Sharing.

Proposal 4

That London Conference take positive action in re-imagining how we do our work by authorizing the Executive Secretary and Executive Committee to:

1.   Reallocate resources and people, which may include redeveloping job descriptions and committee mandates, so that everything works towards the goal of engaging congregations in stewardship and in social justice work beyond their own pastoral charge;
2.   While maintaining episcopal authority at the Presbytery level, give support to the General Council plans for shifting responsibilities for pastoral relations from Presbyteries to Conferences so that Presbyteries and Congregations can be freed up to be about the priority of congregational renewal and development; and
3.   Partner with Congregations so that our strong youth leadership may be given opportunities to be engaged with Congregations in this work of daring to explore new frontiers of faith, witness and caring.
